Disabling P2P File Sharing

Downloading or distributing whole copies of copyrighted material for personal use or entertainment without explicit permission from the copyright owner is against the law. The information below list some of the most common peer-to-peer (P2P) clients and link to instructions on how to disable file sharing for each one. If your particular client is not listed here, you are not exempt from the restrictions against distributing copyrighted material. If you do have a client that is not listed here, we will gladly add it. You may contact us at copyright@iu.edu with: the name of the client, the method by which we might acquire a copy for ourselves, and, if possible, instructions on how to disable file sharing.

The instructions on this page are a guide for what we currently think are feasible workarounds, but ultimate responsibility for your network usage falls on you. With regard to file sharing, the only method of ensuring total compliance with copyright laws is to completely uninstall sharing applications. Use of P2P sharing clients is at your own risk.
