IUPD-NW Sergeant Wayne James, Officer Trueblood and Officer Melvin Blakely participated in a multi-agency Gary Crime Sweep on Friday June 8.  The operation focused on a troubled part of Gary and the surrounding communities.  The operation netted 35 arrests on 44 charges, the majority of which were City and County warrants.

Christopher Sallie, 27, of Gary, was taken into custody by the Indiana University officers after running away from Lake County officers. The county officers had attempted to pull him over in a Cadillac he was driving but he took off running. Several plastic bags of marijuana were found in the center console of the car and the discarded .357 Magnum revolver was found about a block away which he threw as he ran from officers.

Approximately 60 officers from nine departments heavily covered the city's streets in a crime saturation operation and made the arrest after being briefed with the man's photograph.
