Update: Chemical Spill at Riley Hospital
Update: As of 4:30 pm EDT today, Riley is back to normal, but there are some residual activities nearby. The chemical of concern was brought in by one of the persons requiring hospitalization, and that person's vehicle has been located and determined to also have some of the chemical inside. Steps are being taken to ensure safety, but as long as you are not in that particular vehicle, you should have no need for concern.
Update: As of 3:15 pm EDT today, the "All Clear" has been given. IUPUI Environmental Health and Safety have the chemical in question and are continuing efforts to identify it. The Riley ER has been cleared of all suspected contaminants and and has returned to business as usual. Thanks to all those who responded from various IU, IU Health, and Indianapolis agencies.
As of 2:30 pm EDT today, the chemical spilled at Riley Hospital has yet to be identified. All persons exposed have been treated, with four individuals requiring further treatment elsewhere. As decontamination efforts wind down, please avoid the area if at all possible to allow response teams the space they need to work effectively. The spill was contained to the Riley ER. The hospital is now open. There was no direct impact to IUPUI, and no classes have been disrupted or cancelled.
