Travel Insurance & Assistance

Trip Cancellation Insurance covers certain costs incurred on a cancelled trip.  Trip cancellation insurance is not provided by IU, but can be purchased at the individual's or department's discretion.  However, many travel vendors already provide generous terms to accommodate cancellations.  Orbitz for Business, for example, allows IU departments to retain funds from cancelled flights in their Orbitz Customer Account, to be applied toward the cost of a future flight.  As a result, trip insurance may not always be necessary or advisable.

Travel Assistance provides coverage for health concerns and may provide evacuation coverage for political emergencies and natural disasters encountered while traveling outside the United States.  In some cases, this coverage may include any travel beyond 100 miles from the traveler's home.   IU full-time employees have access to a Travel Assistance program as part of their Group Life Insurance package, as do students currently enrolled in an IU Student Health Care Plan.

The Office of Insurance, Loss Control & Claims provides more information regarding Travel Assistance & Trip Cancellation Insurance options available to IU travelers.

Vehicle Rental Insurance is provided to travelers while driving on IU business in the United States and many other countries around the world.  IU will not provide reimbursement for additional vehicle insurance purchased in covered countries.
