Jim Garlits develops, reviews, and maintains campus public safety plans, policies, and procedures for the overall emergency management and continuity program on the Bloomington campus.
Prior to joining IU in September of 2016, Garlits was the emergency management program coordinator for the Indiana National Guard, in charge of 18 emergency management functional areas, including mass warning and notification, comprehensive planning, training and exercises, and community awareness. He has also worked for the Department of Homeland Security’s National Infrastructure Coordinating Center as a watch analyst.
During his 20-year career with the National Guard serving as a medical plans and operations officer, Jim served as the National Guard Bureau Joint Coordination Center team chief and coordinated the medical mission during the Guard’s response to Midwest flooding in 2008.
