Biography

As member of the senior staff in both the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO and the Office of the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs, Mark Bruhn oversees and advises university leadership on strategy, policy, and execution for a variety of areas designed to maintain an appropriate level of assurance in university operations and activities: cybersecurity, personal and institutional privacy, information management, emergency preparedness and response, administrative and academic continuity, policing and community safety, homeland security, emergency communications, enterprise risk management, university event management, and environmental health and safety.

Bruhn is co-founder and provides oversight for the IU-based Research and Educational Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC), and serves as an associate director of the IU Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research. He is also an adjunct faculty member in the IU School of Informatics and Computing, and contributes to student education in cybersecurity and other assurance topics. Bruhn has been with IU for nearly 30 years, having joined the university as a student intern after an 8-year stint in the United States Air Force.

Bruhn was a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in the United States Air Force for more than eight years.  He served at various locations as NCO-in-Charge of Air Defense and Electronic Warfare Operations.
