Ken Long helps prepare the Bloomington campus for emergencies through development of key strategic and operational plans, training, and exercises that help guide the campus in emergency planning. He also serves as the Bloomington Campus Emergency Operations Center Manager coordinating emergency response efforts when necessary. Additionally, Long represents IU as a member the Monroe County Emergency Management Advisory Council and is a member of the District Eight Disaster Response Task Force All-Hazards Incident Management Team.

Prior to joining Indiana University in July 1994, Long retired from the Marine Corps. His service involved several tours to the Far East, European, Mediterranean, African and mid-eastern theatres of operations. He began working for Indiana University in the Office of Risk Management as a Claims Adjuster.  He also managed Loss Control until which time he formed and led the Disaster and Crisis Planning unit.

Other Activities

Long is active in his church as one of the elders. He also leads a small group and enjoys taking boys on wilderness camping trips to help them discover and hone Christ-like principles in themselves.
