As Public Safety Support Manager for the Office of Public Safety and Institutional Assurance, Richard Erny has the task of managing and facilitating a variety of activities and initiatives across the scope of public safety for Indiana University.
He is specialized in various aspects of safety and security programs, especially implemented in higher education, and including those designed to implement specific laws, regulations, and policies. Erny is also responsible for managing public safety engagement, researching and documenting the university’s requirements and external obligations, and developing and delivering education awareness training. Prior to becoming part of the Public Safety team, he was employed as a Research Compliance Consultant in 2011 and a Contract Officer in 2008 for Indiana University.
Before coming to IU, Erny worked for the city of Indianapolis as both a Grant Manager in the Department of Metropolitan Development and an Employment Specialist in Human Resources. Erny also held positions for the State of Indiana in the Criminal Justice Institute. His positions included Indiana Police Corps Recruitment Coordinator, Grant Manager and Acting Supervisor, Field Monitor, and Criminal Division Grant Coordinator.
