Janet Butkus is honored to be back in the Hoosier State where she was born and raised and even happier to be working at Indiana University (IUPUI) in the Physical Security and Institutional Assurance Unit as a physical security analyst.
Butkus began her career in law enforcement in 1986 as a police officer with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department in Rockford, Ill. In 1991, she joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent; her first assignment was in the Kansas City Division working out of the Springfield Resident Agency. In 2001, Janet transferred to the Washington, D.C. area where she worked on the U.S. Attorney General’s Protection Detail and then Counterterrorism and related matters at FBIHQ. Butkus transferred to Quantico where she was a supervisor in the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Unit. In 2009, she returned to the Kansas City Division and worked on a Surveillance Squad to round out her career. After 25 years, she decided to hang up her handcuffs and retire.
