If you have an interested in emergency or safety management, law enforcement, public health, safety communications or social justice you should check IU Public Safety Partners, a new student group. Public Safety and Institutional Assurance is holding a call-out at IU Bloomington. Similar groups may start at other campuses, too. Here are the objectives:
- Pre-professional development for students interested in fields related to law enforcement, safety and emergency management and public health
- Safety education
- Social justice discussions
- Safety communication assistance
PSIA includes IUPD, Emergency Management and Continuity, Environmental Health and Safety, University Information Security Office, University Information Policy Office and other areas that work to keep the university community on all campuses safety.
"Police around the country need to do a better job of engaging the citizens of the communities they serve," said Andy Stephenson, Operations Captain for IUPD-Bloomington.
"Our hope is that this group will strengthen and enhance the relationship between students and police, as well as increase safety and decrease the fear of crime on campus. It will give police an opportunity for transparency and allow students to voice any safety-related concerns they may have. The entire university community can benefit as we work together to solve problems."
