Welcome Zia Nuss!
My name is Zia Nuss, and I am the new Laboratory Safety Specialist. I completed my Chemistry B.A. with minors in Biology and Medical Sociology at IUPUI in 2015. I assisted with pediatric research for three years during my undergraduate education while participating in the Life Health Sciences Internship (LHSI), the Herman B. Wells Center Internship, an Indiana Physiology Society annual meeting, a Diabetes journal publication, and a women in STEM poster session. After earning my degree, I began working at the IU Genetics Biorepository (IUGB) as a laboratory technician. I was promoted to the quality control lead technician a few years later; and gained management, equipment maintenance, and auditing experience.
My family is a big part of my life. I am the youngest of ten siblings. I was born in Lafayette, Indiana and raised in Starke County Indiana. I am engaged to be married in 2020, and have a son in preschool. I enjoy hiking, cooking, and reading on my free time. I am very hands on and understand the necessity of working in teams.
I am excited to be part of IUPUI’s Environmental Health and Safety team! I have always made safety top priority throughout my career. My experience with quality control has increased my high attention to detail and ability to resolve discrepancies. I look forward to meeting new laboratory personnel, learning various laboratory operations, and forming lasting alliances. I am dedicated to keeping IU’s laboratories safe and healthy!
