The Fire Safety and Loss Prevention team ensures IU properties on every campus comply with fire and building code regulations. Inspectors on the team are liasons to the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office and work in a similar manner to state inspectors. Inspectors in Fire Safety and Loss Prevention are part of the design team for new construction, overseeing aspects of design such as egress, fire suppression and emergency notification.

The Fire Safety and Loss Prevention team also provides training in fire extinguisher use, CPR and first aid. They test services on fire pumps and fire hydrants owned by the university.
