The New Year brings regulatory changes for those of you shipping dangerous goods, including dry ice, and Category A, infectious substances.  Keep in mind that shipping dangerous goods requires specific training.  Shipment of Biological Materials training classes are available for registration through our office, and refresher training is available here.  Contact our office at 274-2005 for more information.

Packing Instructions

On January 1, 2011, the packing instruction numbers for Dry Ice and Category A, Infectious Substances changed.  These numbers are required on the Declaration of Dangerous Goods, so please make note of the following changes:

  • Dry Ice is changing from Packing Instruction 904 to 954.
  • Category A, Infectious Substance is changing from 602 to 620.

*The packing instructions themselves remain unchanged; it is only the number that is changing.

Shipper’s Declaration

As of January 10, 2011, all Declaration for Dangerous Goods forms sent through FedEx must be prepared with software that has compliance edit checks.  There are a number of approved software packages, including one offered by FedEx free of charge.   You will also need to order paper with the red and white hatch marks pre-printed on them, also free from FedEx.
