Public Safety Advisory: Avoid ticket fraud this football season
Aug. 24, 2026 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLOOMINGTON – As the 2026 Indiana University Football season gets underway, the IU Police Department wants fans to take precautions when purchasing or transferring tickets. The IUPD received a significant number of ticket fraud reports last season, and increased demand for tickets can create opportunities for scammers.
For student tickets
All IU student football tickets are digital and have already been purchased through IU student season ticket packages. There are no single-game student ticket purchasing opportunities for the remainder of the 2026 season, and student tickets cannot be resold. Students can access and securely transfer their tickets through the GoIU app.
Student tickets use Near Field Communication technology and must be added to a digital wallet before arriving at the game. Screenshots of tickets will not work for admission. Students should be cautious of anyone offering to sell a student ticket, particularly through social media or other unofficial channels.
For general public tickets
Fans purchasing general public tickets should use iuhoosiers.com or SeatGeek, the official fan-to-fan marketplace for IU Athletics. IU Athletics can only verify tickets purchased directly through the IU Athletics Ticket Office or SeatGeek. Fans purchasing tickets from other websites, social media accounts or from individuals risk receiving fraudulent or invalid tickets.
The IUPD encourages everyone to use caution before paying money online or providing bank account or credit card number information for a ticket to an individual or unofficial ticket office.
- Verify where the ticket is coming from.
- Use official ticketing channels.
- Be wary of offers that seem too good to be true.
Taking a few extra steps before making a purchase can help prevent ticket fraud and ensure a safe and enjoyable game day.
Reporting fraud
If you believe you are the victim of ticket fraud, contact IUPD on campus to file a police report.
