IUPD-Northwest was recognized this week by the Urban League of Northwest Indiana for its success in recruiting female officers and for offering its campus community one of the most diverse law enforcement agencies in the state.
Officers and division leadership accepted the Workforce Award for Diversity and Inclusion, which noted that the division has a history of “demonstrating progressive and inclusive practices.” The award also referred to the role of Wayne James, deputy superintendent for regional campuses; chief of police for IUPD-Northwest, in making diversity and inclusion a priority for the division and the department, which has IUPD divisions on each campus. James also is IUPD’s first Chief Diversity Officer.
