Body-Worn Cameras

Body-worn cameras at IUPD

The Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) has implemented the use of body-worn cameras (BWC) and in-car video systems (ICVS) on the campuses of Bloomington, IUPUI, and Northwest.

The body-worn cameras, along with new in-car cameras, are among the steps IUPD is taking to strengthen its assistance to and relationship with the students, staff, faculty, and communities we serve. Some initiatives are the result of a commission's report and recommendations after reviewing IUPD's training and de-escalation policies.

The cameras are a valuable tool to ensure the best possible customer service on behalf of our officers. The cameras can also assist the department with cases, disputes, and/or complaints that need investigation.

IUPD has put in place a policy that meets national best practices.
