Course description
Designed for law enforcement personnel, urban planners, architects, security professionals, and community stakeholders, participants of this course will learn about the history and theory behind Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). It will focus on the key concepts of natural surveillance, natural access control, territorial reinforcement, and maintenance and how to apply these principles to real-world environments. You will develop the skills to assess spaces for vulnerabilities and recommend design-based crime prevention strategies.

- Understand the philosophy and evolution of CPTED
- Identify and apply the four core CPTED principles
- Conduct a site assessment using CPTED techniques
- Recognize the role of community engagement in successful CPTED implementation
- Recommend environmental design changes to reduce opportunities for crime
