Biography
Kathryn Manteuffel became university director for IU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) in September 2021. In this role, she provides direction for EHS across all Indiana University campuses, including oversight of EHS service contracts with IU Health (Riley, Methodist, and University Hospital) and Eskenazi Hospital. She oversees 60 staff members across the 17 IU academic and medical campuses in the areas of Public Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Laboratory Safety, Radiation Safety, and Biological Safety.
Prior to this most recent appointment, Manteuffel served IU as associate university director for EHS, providing leadership and operational oversight for the development of policy, strategy and comprehensive support of programs for EHS for all Indiana University campuses toward the overarching goal of protecting the university community and the natural environment, while ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, rules and regulations.
Manteuffel has also served as regional director of EHS, providing leadership and oversight for all of IU’s regional campuses (IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU Southeast and IU South Bend).
She has been employed by Indiana University since 1995.
Manteuffel maintains a certificate/license as an asbestos building inspector in the State of Indiana as well as a certificate as a food protection manager.
