The IUPD Dispatch Communications Center responds to 911 calls for all IU campuses across the state all day and every day of the year. Its highly-trained dispatchers are dedicated to serving the safety needs of all IU students, faculty, staff and visitors.
Call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger or a situation feels unsafe.
When you call 911 in an emergency, it is important to stay calm and listen to the dispatcher's questions and guidance.
The dispatcher will want to know specific information about where your emergency is located. They may ask what room number, building or street name, or for descriptions of the area. They will also ask if you are safe in your current location, and may advise that you find a safer place to make your 911 call.

If you are calling because you or someone else is injured or in need of medical assistance, they will want to know more about the injury and can provide telephone CPR, if needed.
Many 911 calls relate to car accidents. Be ready to describe where the accident occured, who was involved, and if anyone was injured.
For calls about a crime in progress, the dispatcher will ask for a description of the criminal activity, the people involved, and if any weapons were involved.
