IU Threat Assessment Team consists of IU police and appropriate university partners who work together to assess, manage, and monitor potential threats to campus safety. The IU Threat Assessment Team can assess risk using a fact-based, investigative approach and will provide supportive campus resources to individuals who exhibit behaviors that pose a threat to others and themselves.
Behaviors of concern
Individuals who may harm others and themselves often exhibit warning signs. If you become aware of threatening behavior, contact the IU Threat Assessment Team to intervene and maintain safety.
Observable behaviors could include:
- threats or harassment in person, or by phone calls, emails, or social media posts;
- delusional or violent statements;
- verbal, written or communicated threats, especially that express plans to harm others;
- expressions of intense hopelessness or desperation.
A report to the IU Threat Assessment Team is not the same as a police report. Victims of a crime or that have witnessed a criminal act should contact IU Police Department contact the IU Police Department at 812-855-4111 to file a police report.
The purpose of a report to the IU Threat Assessment Team is to address concerning behaviors before an emergency occurs. If you see someone exhibiting the behaviors described above, or other behaviors considered threatening under the circumstances, make a report to the IU Threat Assessment Team.
