IU Laser Safety Program
The IU Laser Safety Program ensures regulatory compliance and safe operation of Class 3B and 4 lasers. The Program requirements are derived from the American National Standard for the Safe Use of Lasers (ANSI Z136.1 –2014). It applies to all laser users who work with Class 3B or 4 lasers at the Indiana University facilities.
All lasers used at IU must be registered with IUEHS. Prior to use of a Class 3B or 4 laser at IU, all users must:
- Read the Laser Safety Training Guide
- Complete the online Laser Safety Training provided by IUEHS
- Receive specific training for each laser from the Principal Investigator, including standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and proper personal protective equipment.
All training must be documented on the Training Documentation Form, Appendix C of the IU Laser Safety Program, and records maintained by the Principal Investigator.
