Ergonomics is defined as “the study of work.” It is the science of fitting the workstation and tools to the employee. Adapting the job to fit the employee can help reduce ergonomic stress and eliminate many potential ergonomic disorders.
IUEHS has developed the Ergonomics Program to proactively prevent or reduce work-related ergonomic injuries.
Components of the program include: office ergonomics, laboratory ergonomics, back safety, ergonomic product display, and exercises.
A few minutes should be taken every day to stretch and strengthen your muscles. Stretching your muscles can help prevent injuries and make your job easier on your body.
Stretches permit the flexibility the body needs to assume many different postures. Bouncing while stretching can result in injury.
IUEHS staff from the respective campuses can perform ergonomic evaluations and make recommendations for the workstation.
