Our secure building technology

Students, faculty, and staff at all Indiana University campuses are issued a university identification (ID) card with their photograph, name, and affiliation.

Many faculty and staff ID cards include access control technology features that allow access at select interior and exterior doors utilizing card readers (e.g., magnetic stripe, proximity), door strikes, and communication links. The cards are linked to a computer-based system that keeps a record of card usage, including the time, date, card number, and name of person to whom it is assigned. 

We ask faculty and staff  to continuously display their ID card while on university property. 

Building access

Our learning facilities and offices are regularly open and available to students on weekdays, unless they are closed for an official holiday. On weekends, they may also be open during scheduled events, classes, and meetings.

If you need to request access to a facility outside of its standard hours of operation or are a faculty member that would like to request authorization for a student to access a building after hours, get in touch with the IUPD or your building contact.
