Purpose
To list the minimum resources that are available to the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) public safety dispatchers.
General Order
The IUPD public safety dispatchers have immediate access to resources and information related to the department and its operation.
Shift supervisor (11.1.5 a)
Public safety dispatchers will, at all times, have immediate access to any shift supervisor who is on duty. Shift supervisors will be accessible through radio communications but may also be accessed by telephone or in person.
Duty schedule for all field personnel (11.1.5 b)
Public safety dispatchers will have access to the department’s scheduling software which includes the duty schedule for all field personnel and their assigned patrol areas as applicable.
Personnel roster (11.1.5 c)
Public safety dispatchers will have access to the department’s employee list. The employee list contains the address and contact telephone number for all IUPD employees and is maintained electronically.
Visual depictions of the current service area (11.1.5 d)
A visual map depicting the specific boundaries of the IUPD’s legal jurisdiction and patrol service area for all campuses served by the IUPD is made available to the public safety dispatchers. State, city, and other Indiana University maps are also readily accessible to public safety dispatchers.
Status information (11.1.5 e)
Public safety dispatchers will utilize the IUPD’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to monitor the status of on duty field personnel who may be dispatched to a call for service. This system records and displays the unit number, calls for service, incident type, status, location, and other relevant information.
Written procedures and telephone numbers for campus and community services (11.1.5 f)
Call out lists, procedures, manuals, and training materials are available to public safety dispatchers either electronically and/or in print form. Other organizations and resources for procuring emergency and necessary external services including various public service agencies, medical and mental health services, wrecker companies, and other public and private agencies that may be called upon to assist or be used as resources are also available to the public safety dispatchers.
Dispatching plans (11.1.5 g)
Public safety dispatchers will have access to dispatching communications plans and procedures to follow in directing resources and obtaining information on incidents. These plans and procedures are available electronically and/or in print form.
