Purpose
To state the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) public safety dispatchers are trained on the type of emergency life-saving information that they are authorized to provide to callers.
General Order
The IUPD’s dispatch communications center is certified to provide telephone cardiopulmonary resuscitation (T-CPR) to callers using the Computer-Aided Call Handling Lite (CACH) T-CPR software. This software provides step-by-step instructions based on the responses to the prompted questions. The CACH T-CPR software is immediately accessible to the public safety dispatchers at each workstation.
All public safety dispatchers will complete quarterly training on T-CPR as assigned.
The IUPD’s public safety dispatchers will not provide any other type of first aid instructions to callers. When the dispatch communications center receives requests for medical resources, the public safety dispatcher will immediately connect the caller to the appropriate local emergency medical dispatch agency.
