Purpose
To state the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) dispatch communications center provides 24-hour communications capabilities to persons with hearing or speech impairment.
General Order
The IUPD’s dispatch communications center is staffed twenty-four (24) hours each day to answer calls for service from members of the public. The IUPD’s dispatch communications center utilizes a call handling system for 911 calls that has the capability to receive communication from and send communication to persons who have a hearing or speech impairment. For all other calls, the dispatch communications center has access to software that allows communication via text message.
