Rescinds: None
Purpose
To state the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) provides 24-hour, two-way radio communications capability.
General Order
The IUPD has 24-hour, two-way radio capability that provides continuous communication between the dispatch communications center and on-duty field personnel. All on-duty field personnel will be equipped with portable radios to ensure they have continuous communications capabilities with the dispatch communications center for the purposes of exchanging information, requesting assistance, receiving orders and/or instructions, and responding to calls for service.
Certain assignments, such as an officer working in an undercover capacity, may dictate an exception to this continuous communication requirement. Exceptions will be considered and approved by a supervisor.
Definition
Field personnel – as used in this general order, field personnel means any sworn or non-sworn employee who, by virtue of their assignment, have routine contact with the general public while not in a traditional office setting. Also referred to as a dispatchable unit, this includes personnel who are available for receiving and responding to calls for service or working special events.
