All IUPD employees play a critical role in the success of crime prevention efforts and have responsibility fostering collaborative relationships with the community to address crime and improve the quality of life.
Crime Prevention Function
The IUPD’s crime prevention function is a shared responsibility of all employees, however the management and coordination of the crime prevention programs and services is the responsibility of each division’s senior leadership. Each IUPD division will:
- use crime analysis data to identify and monitor crime trends, at minimum by crime type and geographic area. This information will be used by the divisions when developing and implementing their crime prevention programs and patrol strategies (12.1.1 a).
- develop programs that address community perceptions or misperceptions of crime within and around the campus community (12.1.1 b).
- complete a comprehensive written evaluation of their crime prevention programs at least once every four (4) years. These written evaluations will be forwarded to the superintendent for public safety and deputy superintendents for review (12.1.1 c).
