Sub-Chapter: 16.3 - Annual Campus Security Report
Effective Date: 02/27/2019
Revised Date: 02/07/2023
Rescinds: G16.3.1 – 2/27/2019
Purpose
To define the Indiana University Police Department’s (IUPD) role in preparing Indiana University’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR).
General Order
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), IU Public Safety prepares and publishes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for Indiana University. IUPD staff will assist IU Public Safety staff in gathering information and compiling data for inclusion in the ASFSR.
Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (16.3.1 a, b)
IU Public Safety’s director for compliance is responsible for coordinating activities related to the ASFSR for Indiana University. The director for compliance works in collaboration with various departments across Indiana University to compile the required information for inclusion in the ASFSR.
This report is required to provide specific information regarding the university’s policies, procedures, practices, and programs concerning crime reporting, safety and security, sexual assault and relationship violence, and drugs and alcohol. Three years of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the university, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. For campuses that operate on-campus student residential facilities, the report also contains information regarding fire safety policies, procedures, and programs. Three years of fire statistics are included for fires that were reported to have occurred within or on each on-campus student housing facility.
Each IUPD division has a designated Clery compliance coordinator who gathers and compiles the required crime and fire statistics from reports made directly to the IUPD, campus security authorities, and local law enforcement. The Clery compliance coordinators also work collaboratively with the director for compliance and other campus partners as appropriate in gathering, confirming, and updating other information in the ASFSR.
By October 1 of every calendar year, unless otherwise directed by the U.S. Department of Education, IU Public Safety will publish and distribute the ASFSR.
