Purpose
To state Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) employees will abide by established Indiana University Principles of Ethical Conduct.
General Order
All employees of the IUPD will be fully aware of the ethical responsibilities of their position and will strive to live up to the highest possible standards of professionalism. Entry-level and annual ethics refresher training appropriate to the employee’s job function will be completed.
Indiana University Principles of Ethical Conduct
All IUPD employees will follow the Principles of Ethical Conduct established by the Trustees of Indiana University. These principles are intended as a high level statement of values and expectations and help promote an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law, and university codes, policies, and procedures. In practicing and modeling ethical conduct, IUPD employees are expected to:
- Act according to the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct;
- Be personally accountable for individual actions;
- Conscientiously fulfill obligations toward students, colleagues, and the public in performing duties as part of the university community; and
- Communicate ethical standards of conduct though instruction and example.
Training
Entry-level and annual ethics refresher training, appropriate to the employee’s job function, will be conducted for all personnel. Ethics training may be taught as a standalone topic or course, or could be incorporated into other training courses, including those which affirm the sanctity of human life and the duty to intervene.
