Purpose
To state the medical examination and drug screening pre-employment contingency requirement for all candidates who have accepted a sworn position with the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD).
General Order
The IUPD requires a medical examination performed by a licensed medical practitioner, and a drug screening administered by a qualified laboratory, to be completed by all candidates who have accepted a sworn position. Candidates must complete the medical examination and drug screening prior to their start date.
Medical Examination and Drug Screening
A medical examination of each candidate who has accepted a sworn position will be conducted by a licensed medical practitioner as part of the pre-employment contingencies. The medical examination is necessary to ensure the health and physical condition of candidates for law enforcement employment. The medical examination will be recorded on the applicable form.
A drug screening of each candidate who has accepted a sworn position will be administered by a qualified laboratory as part of the pre-employment contingencies. The IUPD’s business operations manager will coordinate with Indiana University’s Office of Insurance, Loss Control, & Claims (INLOCC) who will provide the candidate with the information and paperwork to complete the drug screening. Whether passed or failed, the laboratory will provide the candidate’s results to INLOCC, and INLOCC will inform the business operations manager.
