Provisions to secure firearms and other weapons (8.1.3 a)
Officers may secure their firearms and other weapons at their discretion. If an officer chooses to secure their firearm and any other weapon, they will do so in accordance with G7.2.3 Weapons Control.
Duress alarms (8.1.3 b)
Panic or duress buttons are on every officer’s handheld radio and are monitored twenty-four (24) hours a day by the IUPD’s dispatch communications center.
Escape prevention (8.1.3 c)
Officers are responsible for ensuring that arrestees are properly restrained and that precautions are taken to prevent escapes. Handcuffs will only be removed when the arrestee is otherwise controlled and a sufficient number of officers are present. Doors and windows will be secured as necessary.
