Revised Date: 02/27/2024
Rescinds: None
Purpose
To state the features of the Indiana University Police Department’s (IUPD) patrol vehicles used for transporting arrestees which minimize the potential of an arrestee exiting the vehicle without assistance.
General Order
Certain patrol vehicles have been identified as primary arrestee transporting vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with driver-controlled window locks and child safety locking capability. To minimize the opportunity of exit or escape by the arrestee during transportation, the transporting officer will ensure:
- the window separating the rear compartment from the front compartment is closed,
- the ‘Child Safety Lock’ on the rear doors is engaged so the rear doors cannot be opened from the inside, and
- the window lock is engaged so the arrestee is unable to roll down the rear windows.
