Chapter: Chapter 09: Patrol Services
Sub-Chapter: 9.1 - Patrol Operations
Effective Date: 01/10/2024
Revised Date: 01/10/2024
Rescinds: None
Purpose
To list the emergency response equipment and state the procedures for replenishment of the equipment carried in the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) patrol vehicles.
General Order
All IUPD vehicles that are used in traffic enforcement and general patrol services, will be minimally equipped with the following items (9.1.4 a):
- A blanket,
- An emergency response guidebook,
- A fire extinguisher,
- A first aid kit,
- A roll of crime scene tape, and
- A supply of road flares or traffic cones.
Officers will inspect their assigned patrol vehicle at the beginning of their shift to determine the operational readiness of all the equipment assigned to the vehicle. Any damaged, defective, or missing items will be reported to the division’s fleet manager. Officers who use items during a shift that causes a need for the items to be replenished will inform the division’s fleet manager. The division’s fleet manager will ensure the items are replenished, coordinating with Indiana University Public Safety’s project management specialist in charge of inventory control as appropriate (9.1.4 b). Vehicles that need equipment replenished may still be used if no other vehicles are available.
