Chapter: Chapter 09: Patrol Services
Sub-Chapter: 9.1 - Patrol Operations
Effective Date: 01/10/2024
Revised Date: 01/10/2024
Rescinds: None
Purpose
To describe the process used by officers of the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) for requesting additional assistance and resources to the scene of an incident.
General Order
Depending on the nature of an incident, additional resources may be needed to manage and resolve the incident. Responding officers will request additional assistance and resources as appropriate ensuring medical assistance is provided, statutory obligations are met, essential services are restored, and needed repairs are reported.
Request for additional assistance and resources
Each call for service is unique and may require more than one officer, a supervisor, the activation of the Incident Management Team (IMT), response by those who have specialty training, or assistance from other university departments. Additionally, incidents may require the assistance of external departments or agencies, including but not limited to emergency medical services, fire department, coroner, public works, or utilities personnel.
Responding officers and/or supervisors will evaluate the incident and make the determination of what additional assistance is needed. Once a determination is made, the responding officer or supervisor will inform the IUPD dispatch communications center, who will make the appropriate notifications.
In the event the IMT has been activated, notifications can be made through the IMT to coordinate response by appropriate personnel.
