  • IU Traveler Information Form

New travel restrictions for the IU community

Indiana University is banning all travel to any country the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified with a level 3 travel advisory. This now includes South Korea. Travel to China also remains suspended.

The coronavirus situation is evolving rapidly and all travelers, especially in or around the areas most affected by COVID-19, need to be aware of the possibility that new travel restrictions, transportation cancelations, or periods of required isolation could be put in place while travelers are overseas.

View the most up-to-date advisories on the CDC’s and State Department’s websites. Travel advisory level definitions are available in the FAQ on the Protect IU site.

IU will grant exceptions for humanitarian reasons to those traveling to these countries to assist with pandemic response. Please submit requests for exceptions to the AVPpsia@iu.edu.

Quarantine after returning to the U.S. from abroad

  • Anyone travelling to a CDC designated level 2 or 3 country will be required to self-quarantine off-campus for a period of 14-days before returning to Indiana University.
  • If you are returning from a country which has a confirmed case of coronavirus COVID-19, please complete the secure IU Traveler Information Form before your return. Our public health team will get in touch with you directly for further guidance.
  • If you are returning from a country which has no confirmed cases of the virus, there is nothing additional you need to do at this time. If you have questions about your travel or specific situation, please email AVPpsia@iu.edu.

International traveler information form

In response to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, governments worldwide are implementing travel restrictions quickly and with little notice. Please be watchful of this if you intend to travel outside the U.S.. You may be stranded in a country and unable to return due to evolving restrictions.

IU is requesting information from students, faculty and staff about their planned international travel to help provide guidance, public health information and address concerns.

Providing this information may help the university advise anyone affiliated with IU with timely travel information and advice on getting back to the U.S. after international travel should there be changes in travel restrictions or the status of the virus around the world.

If you plan to travel outside the U.S., please complete the secure IU Traveler Information Form now with the details of your trip.

Students and faculty currently overseas

The Office of Overseas Study, along with Public Safety and Institutional Assurance, is closely monitoring the developments associated with this virus worldwide and communicating with the hundreds of students who are currently studying overseas with university programs. We are advising these students to follow the guidelines of their programs and the safety and public health measures they recommend.

Planning and preparations

While the risk of coronavirus COVID-19 in the U.S. remains low at this time, Indiana University continues to prepare for a potential outbreak. Public Safety and Institutional Assurance has been leading the strategy and preparations associated with contingency planning and meeting with partners across the university and coordinating with local and state health departments and hospitals since early January.

There are currently no confirmed cases in Indiana or at any IU campus.
