Debbi Fletcher has been named university director for Emergency Management and Continuity within the Office of Public Safety and Institutional Assurance. She begins her new position on February 1.
“Over the past year, the IU Emergency Management and Continuity team – along with Environmental Health and Safety – has been the center of our COVID-19 response,” said Benjamin Hunter, associate vice president for public safety and institutional assurance and superintendent for public safety at IU. “Debbi Fletcher’s experience, both at IU and at other organizations, makes her the ideal person to lead such a dedicated team as they plan and assist in so many areas across the IU system.”
One of Fletcher’s main priorities in her new role will be to provide leadership and guidance for IU’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution effort.
Fletcher has a lengthy career in the field of emergency management. She was the director of Emergency Management and Continuity for IU Bloomington from 2010 to 2016. Prior to rejoining IU in 2020, she served in the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, planning emergency management exercises that ensured continuity of services among local, state, and federal partners. She has held similar roles for the American Red Cross Indiana Region and the City of Indianapolis in Marion County Emergency Management.
“I’m excited to be given the opportunity to work and collaborate with a great team to ensure the safety and security of the entire IU community,” said Fletcher.
Fletcher’s experience, knowledge, and passion as a detailed planner, adjunct instructor, and IU Indianapolis alumna have positioned her well to lead the dedicated group of professionals within Emergency Management and Continuity.
