Download IU's new Guardian safety app

The free app is available at the Apple Store and Google Play. Public safety officials encourage the university community to download and use the app so it can be improved with community feedback.

"We're excited to offer this app to make it easier for students, faculty and staff to connect with our safety resources," said Brad Seifers, university director of emergency management and continuity. "We work hard to serve our communities, and offering an app is one more way to meet our students' and staff needs. This summer early adopters have the opportunity to help us improve it by sharing their experience and suggestions."

Here are some features:

• An inbox for IU-Notify emergency alerts, crime notices and public safety advisories
• Quick access to 911 dispatchers and campus police
• A safe walk timer to let family and friends know if the user is not home when expected
• Ability to send tips, anonymously if preferred, to police
• Contact information for key campus safety and wellness services
