Biography
Steve Adams serves as the Executive Director for Indiana University Public Safety, where he is responsible for the vital intersection of long-term vision and daily operational excellence. With three decades of leadership experience spanning the nonprofit, public, and higher education sectors, he oversees the public safety portfolio’s administrative infrastructure, financial stewardship, and cross-functional workflows. He collaborates closely with university administration colleagues and campus partners to advance safety and security priorities, translating complex strategic goals into streamlined execution with a focus on resource allocation, risk mitigation, and compliance.
An Indiana University graduate, Steve returned to his alma mater in 2014 following more than 20 years of impactful service in the nonprofit and public sectors. He began his career in 1993 with Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corporation, leading initiatives to improve access to healthcare and directing strategic development consulting services across several Indiana communities. In 2005, Steve transitioned to state government, where he optimized business operations and drove efficiency while serving as the Chief Operating Officer for the Indiana Lieutenant Governor’s Office. Later in his career with the State of Indiana, he contributed to the modernization of Indiana's public and child welfare systems until joining the staff at Indiana University.
