Biography
Brad Seifers was named deputy superintendent at the Indiana University Police Department in February 2021.
Seifers oversees law enforcement operations for IUPD on each of IU's seven campuses. One of his main priorities is to fully implement the community policing strategic framework issued by IUPD in 2020, which is based on President Obama’s 21st Century Policing Report. Another key area of focus is the continued implementation of recommendations from the 2018 De-escalation and Training Commission report, which covers topics such as de-escalation training, data transparency, and adherence to national best practices in the areas of policy and general orders.
From 2018 until February 2021, Seifers served as university director of Emergency Management and Continuity, leading a team that has been instrumental in facilitating IU’s internal response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seifers' career has spanned the fields of law enforcement, emergency management, and the military. He began his law enforcement journey as an IUPD cadet in 1993. From 1995 to 2018, Seifers was a member of the Marion County, Indiana, and Bloomington, Indiana, police departments. At Bloomington Police Department, he was a lieutenant in the investigation division. While a police officer and supervisor, he worked on his graduate degree in performance improvement and obtained various instructor certifications.
Seifers has served in the military for more than 28 years. A command sergeant major in the United States Army National Guard, he served in Bosnia, Iraq, and domestically during Hurricane Katrina.
