First presumptive positive case in Indiana
The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) announced the first presumptive case of coronavirus COVID-19 in Marion County, Indiana. The individual is an adult who recently traveled to Indiana from Boston. (page removed)
This is the first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Indiana. A presumptive positive case means the patient has tested positive at the ISDH Laboratories. Samples will be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for final confirmation.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb issued a public health emergency declaration for the state of Indiana. This declaration will best enable the state to continue working on its response to COVID-19 and ensures the state can request funding to help control the spread of coronavirus.
Indiana University continues to prepare for contingencies, meeting with partners across the university and coordinating with local and state health departments and hospitals.
Tips for staying healthy
In light of the current spread of COVID-19, as well as cold and flu season, follow these best practices to help prevent the spread of illnesses:
- If you develop symptoms, call your health care provider before going to a health care facility.
- Stay away from ill people.
- If you are ill, stay away from others.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or tissue.
- Avoid shaking hands.
- Get an annual flu (influenza) shot through your primary care provider or campus health center.
